iTunes Player Won't Advance to Next Song

Recently, the iTunes Player on my PC has stopped advancing to the next song. It had been working just fine, but suddenly, it will play the first song I select in the playlist, but then stops.

Here's what I've tried so far:

  • Tried several playlists (problem not just related to a single playlist);
  • Ensured my firewall is not blocking iTunes (it wasn't);
  • Upgraded to newest version of iTunes (didn't fix problem);
  • Deleted iTunes player and reinstalling it (didn't fix problem);

I am running version 11.0.4.4 of iTunes on a Windows PC running Windows 7.

Cinda,

That usually means that your songs have come unchecked. iTunes playback will not automatically advance to an unchecked song.

If you cannot see the checkbox for each song, go to Edit > Preferences > General, and enable "Show list checkboxes."

If you can see them and they are not checked, hold the CTRL key and click any one of the empty boxes.

In "Songs" mode, my music advances. In "Playlist" mode, my songs do not. Use to be at the bottom of the playlist were selections on manipulating the playlist behavior. They are no longer there since I upgraded to 12.xxx. Not sure if this means anything. Here is what I have tried:

1. I have the latest version of iTunes. Not sure it this problem started before or after.

2. Under "Controls" neither repeat or shuffle is on or off, it does not matter.

3. The two grey/blue icons at the ends of the play bar can be either color and it does not matter.

4. All songs are checked in "Songs" page, but I see not place to check them in "Playlist" page.

5. BTW, is there a way to keep playlist pages in songs view universality? The color is distracting and sometimes obscuring.

6. "Edit playlist "solutions" have helped so far.

7. I am running WINDOWS 10.

Solution! As mentioned in #4 all songs are checked. When I put the Playlist page in the songs view, nothing was checked. I did the universal all check action and now my songs play in either view. Cannot check songs in playlist view, so now I have to go to each of my 50 playlists, put them in songs view and check them and then put them back in playlist view if I want them there. More time dealing with these little nuisances that iTunes seem to continue to fiddle with and in my opinion causes more confusion than improvements.

One caveat... I moved my location of my Music (left other iTunes files alone) to a different hard drive ("D") to free up some room on my "C" drive. I made the appropriate change in the "Advanced" settings and everything worked. But when I added a new song to my collection, the .itl file did not change on my "D" drive but did on the "C" drive. Apparently, the iTunes program has its on idea where to place the .itl file, and I will have to keep these files in "C". If not, please let me know how to move them so I can get all traces of iTunes off of "C"
